This season's harvest

Three ways to enjoy the same honey, all from our hives in Wayne. Jars are filled by hand and comb boxes are cut and weighed one at a time.

Raw honey naturally varies in color and taste from one harvest to the next. That's how you know it's real. Quantities are small, so when a harvest runs out, it's gone until the bees make more.

Nine years of keeping bees, now in Wayne.

Hi, I'm Hüseyin. I've been keeping bees for nine years, and today I look after our colonies on the hills around Wayne, New Jersey. ARUA is the small business that grew out of that work.

We don't buy honey from anyone else and we don't run it through industrial filters or heaters. What you get is what our bees brought home from the wildflowers, trees and gardens of North Jersey, strained through a simple mesh and poured into the jar.

Good honey takes patience. We only take what the hives can spare, and we leave the bees plenty to make it through a Jersey winter.

From our hives to your table

    1. The bees forage

From spring into fall, our colonies work the wildflowers, trees and gardens within a few miles of the apiary.

    2. We harvest by hand

We pull only fully capped frames, the sign the honey is ripe, and always leave the bees their winter stores.

    3. Strained, never heated

Honey is uncapped and strained through a mesh at room temperature, so the pollen, aroma and enzymes stay in.

    4. Jarred and shipped

We fill and seal your jars the week your order ships, then pack them by hand for USPS or pickup.

Good to know about raw honey

It will crystallize, and that's a good sign

Raw honey turns thick and creamy over time. It hasn't gone bad. To make it runny again, set the jar in warm (not boiling) water and stir.

    Store it in the pantry

Keep the lid tight and the jar at room temperature. The fridge speeds up crystallization. Stored well, honey keeps for years.

Not for babies under 1 year

Like all honey, ours should not be given to infants under 12 months old. This is standard advice from U.S. pediatricians for every kind of honey.

    Questions we hear a lot

What's the difference between the three honeys?

Raw wildflower honey is strained and runny, perfect for tea and baking. Comb honey is a slab of comb exactly as the bees built it, beeswax and all. Raw honey with honeycomb is the best of both: a piece of comb in a jar of raw honey.

Why does a 16 oz jar hold 21 oz of honey?

The 16 oz is the size of the jar, measured by volume. Honey is heavy, so a full 16 oz jar holds about 21 oz (600 g) of honey by weight.

    Can I eat the honeycomb?

Yes. The wax is edible. Spread it on toast, add it to a cheese board or chew it like gum. Some people eat the wax, some spit it out. Both are fine.

    How much does shipping cost?

Orders over $75 ship free. Below that, shipping starts at $7.14 for a comb box and $9.56 for a jar, and is shown in your basket before you pay. Local pickup in Wayne, NJ is always free.

    When will my order ship?

We ship within 1 to 3 business days with USPS. You'll get a tracking number by email.

Do you ship outside the U.S.?

Not right now. We ship to addresses in the United States only.

    Is your honey organic?

We don't use the word organic because bees fly several miles and no beekeeper can certify every flower they visit. What we can promise: raw honey from our own hives, never heated, with nothing added.

My jar arrived damaged. What now?

Sorry about that. Email us a photo as soon as it arrives and we'll work it out with you.

Can I buy honey for a gift or an event?

Yes. Add a gift note in your basket and we'll tuck it inside. For wedding favors, office gifts or larger orders, email us and we'll put something together.
